The 4th edition of EDGE Conference was inaugurated at the hands of Shri Kapil Sibal About 450 delegates from across the world gathered at the conference..
EDGE Conference was inaugurated on 10th March 2011 by Shri Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Union Minister for HRD and Communications and Information Technology, GoI. The event has emerged as a global platform aiming to discuss and collectively take action on the issues crucial for shaping the future of Indian Higher Education.
The annual EDGE conference brought together Vice-Chancellors, Presidents, Directors, Professors, Education Councils, Entrepreneurs and policy makers to interact, collaborate and understand the prevailing trends in the higher education sector. 3-day EDGE conference was held at India Habitat Center in Delhi from 9th to 11th March, 2011. The delegation included participation from morethan 30 international institutions from USA, France, Singapore, UK, Australia, Dubai and Canada explode partnerships with Indian Institutions.
Addressing the gatheringShri Kapil Sibal said, “India is to become the ‘centre of gravity in global Higher education. We are at the cusp of next revolution in education in India and more investment in higher education is the only way forward. Financing education is a government commitment and our national duty with no strings attached. What we need is a change of mindset among all stakeholders in the higher education sector. We must also ensure teaching profession gets highest priority.”
Well-known educator, scientist and institution builder, Prof. C.N.R. Rao was honored with the EDGE Education Personality of the Year Award. The award was conferred in recognition of his extraordinary and exemplary contribution to higher education sector. While receiving the award Prof. Rao commented, “We teachers are to give everything we have, and not to expect anything back.”

'Shaping the Future of Indian Higher Education’ was the theme for EDGE 2011 Conference. The Conference covered various critical topics for the sector like International Partnerships, Future of Medical Education, Vocational Education, Education Infrastructure, Funding Education, Frontiers of New Assessments, ICT for Next Generation Learning Environments, Creativity in Higher Education, Medical Education and Education Policy Framework.
4 Workshops were conducted covering diverse topics like New Models of Admissions by the College Board, USA; Governance Issues in Educational Institutions by Prof. B. Mahadevan, IIM-B; Making International Partnerships Work by Symbiosis and what it takes to be in Top 100 by QS.
The Young EDGE Award for Education Leadership was bestowed upon Mr. Madan Padaki, Co-Founder & CEO, MeritTrac Services Pvt. Ltd. at the hands of Smt. D. Purandeswari, Hon'ble Minister of State for HRD, GoI.
Padma Awardee Prof. K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chairman, Indian Council of Philosophical Research was felicitated during the EDGE Awards Function.
EduExpo & Sponsors Showcase: Leading Educational institutions showcased their strengths and an array of courses and services. The expo facilitated interactions between delegates, sponsors and visitors. Leading companies from ICT presented and demonstrated various services, technologies and new education tools.
Two important Research Reports by Ernst & Young focusing on ’40 Million by 2020: Preparing for a new paradigm in Indian Higher Education and Parthenon focusing on ‘Financing Indian Higher Education’ was released during the event.
EduPartnering: facilitatedone-on-one meetings at EDGE 2011 which had the participation of Indian and International Universities as well as many services, product and solution companies. It proved to be a platform to establish, explore and strengthen partnerships.
